Dining

St. Croix has always been known for its diverse and delicious culinary offerings and there’s no shortage of fantastic options to suit a variety of tastes and price points.

Please keep in mind that most restaurants  close on the early side and many are closed Sundays and Mondays. (There are a few that even close on Fridays) Please call ahead before making the trip.

Recognizing that there are dozens of other great spots, here are some of our current favorites.

ELEVATED DINING

AMA

Savant

Savant

Located 20 minutes to the west of The Landings, Ama is our favorite splurge restaurant. The setting - which is steps from the water - is genuinely stunning and their team are creating some of the most delicious and imaginative dishes in the VI.  An earlier reservation allows you to experience the stunning view before the sun sets. We are jealous already.

Savant

Savant

Savant

Located just a breath east of town and  Fort Christiansvaern, Savant offers a lovely menu and gorgeous indoor / outdoor dining. We usually opt for a casual but elegant evening in their rustic courtyard.

Too Chez

Duggan's Reef

Duggan's Reef

Too Chez is a lovely spot in downtown Christiansted (15 minutes away) that has really caught on with locals and visitors alike.  A recent location change has done nothing but elevate the dining experience.

Duggan's Reef

Duggan's Reef

Duggan's Reef

A St. Croix institution, Duggan's has been delighting guests since 1983.  Located on the east end of the island, make the 25 minute trip to experience their delicious seafood offerings.  Dine on the early side to enjoy the beautiful drive and views.

Casual options for dinner

The Landing

Directly across from Cane Bay beach and about 20 minutes away to the West, The Landing (no relation to us!) offers a casual menu in a laid-back beachfront setting. Offering everything from burgers to daily fish specials, The Landing is the perfect stop after a day at Cane Bay. Fun Fact:  They host a weekly half price burger night on Mondays. Arrive early! Like "before 5:30 early" to get a table or expect a bit of a wait... which can be lovely since they are on the beach.

The Landing

Flyers

Located 25 minutes away on Strand Street in Frederiksted, Flyers is a favorite of ours for a casual yet charming dinner. Located in an historic setting with patio dining options Flyers offers the usual burger fare with numerous elevated specials. Oh, and the fish tacos. We love the fish tacos. Speaking of love, save room for some homemade ice cream. Flyers is a great option after a sunset sail on Lyric.

Flyers

Off The Wall

About 20 minutes away to the West, and *very* close to Cane Bay Beach, Off The Wall offers good pizzas and burgers in a lovely seaside setting. Grab a pizza to-go or enjoy the view from the water’s edge as the sun sets. Fun Fact:  They host a lively Tuesday Night Bingo game! Arrive at 5PM to get a table (and a few cards) and enjoy a magnificent sunset while playing for cash and prizes.

Off the Wall

The Mill Brick Oven Pizza

Located in the heart of the Christiansted boardwalk (16 minutes from home) The Mill  offers terrific pizza in a very casual waterfront setting.  If it's busy (and it often is) the wait for a Mill pizza can be a while. It's best to call ahead.

The Mill

Deep End Bar and Grill

Located on the east end of the island (20 minutes from home) Deep End  offers a relaxed Caribbean  living vibe in a marina setting.  Open for lunch and dinner it's a terrific option.  Pro Tip: Stop by for their weekly Caribbean night. Reservations recommended!

Deep End

Casual Stops for breakfast

Cafe Fresco

Casual and charming / dine-in or take-out

15 minutes from your pool deck

A charming Christiansted courtyard eatery this is our top choice for breakfast or lunch. (If we are being honest most of our breakfasts are eaten poolside after we get take-out from Cafe Fresco or Quality Grocers.) (See below) Cafe Fresco is a terrific option for breakfast or lunch on a day that you are exploring or shopping in Christiansted.

Cafe Fresco

Brew Pub

Casual / dine-in or take-out

15 minutes from your pool deck

Located on the Christiansted boardwalk,  we usually end up at Brew at least once a visit  for drinks, burgers, and fish tacos.  Great for lunch or dinner it's another great option for the day you are exploring Christiansted. Pro Tip: If you are into feeding big fish drop a few french fries off the dock right in front of your seat to see some action!

Brew

Rhythms at Rainbow

Very casual / dine-in / fun

30 minutes from your pool deck

A true beach bar, Rhythms is a great lunch choice if you are beaching it out West. Located on the water it’s a great place to grab a bite on the way to or from the beach.  Sand is welcome. We often eat here when we hit the west end beaches. (Sandy Point if it’s open, Sand Castles, all the little spots north of Frederiksted, etc.)

Rhythms

Beachside Cafe at Sand Castles

Casual / dine-in / calm

30 minutes from your pool deck

Beachside is going to be all about the view.  It is a restaurant where we could bring our parents to eat and watch the sunset without them complaining about the loud music.  An alternative to a beach bar with sit-down food service on the beach.  You can’t go wrong with grilled Mahi or a burger.

Sand Castle

Salt

Casual and charming / dine-in

20 minutes from your pool deck

If Rhythms and Beachside are our go to lunch spots out West, Salt is our East end / South Shore spot for lunch. A casual, open-air eatery with great food and distant water views.

Salt

Leatherback Brewery

Casual and has beer / dine-in / take-out

15 minutes from your pool deck / 5 minutes from the airport

It’s a brewery. In an industrial park. Next to the National Guard. So not exactly a tropical retreat. We still love it! Leatherback is a great place to stop on the way from or to the airport to sample some delicious beer, pub food, and maybe pick up a t-shirt or hat.  It is adjacent to a huge green space where you find people playing cornhole, frisbee, or running their dogs.  Given that it’s 5 minutes form the airport it’s where we stop on the way to the airport for one last taste of St. Croix.

Leatherback

TAKE-OUT (we do this a lot and head to the beach or pool)

Quality Grocery

Mini-mart / take out only

5 minutes from your pool deck

Quality Grocers (not to be confused with Quality Foods) is a local secret in Princess on Northside Road and usually our first meal in STX.  Ask any local for their guilty pleasure to-go lunch sandwich and you’ll likely hear, “the cubano from Quality.” Offered in spicy or regular (team spicey!) it’s an island favorite.  We also love their decadent breakfast sandwiches as well.  Bacon, egg, and cheddar w/everything anyone? Like many hidden gems, the shop is a little rough around the edges, but if you can get past that it’s worth it. Mo runs the store and is terrific.  Pro tip: Call ahead to order 340-718-6307.

Quality

La Reine Chicken Shack

Very Casual / take out mostly

7 minutes from your pool deck

Maybe the most agreed upon take-out destination on the island, go to Chicken Shack for, well, chicken. More specifically, the rotisserie variety. Chicken Shack is pretty much always busy.  We recommend either ordering ahead or planning on having a relaxing drink while patiently waiting.  While they do offer tables most folks take their orders to-go.  You should too since your pool deck is about 7 minutes away.  Pro tip: Order a Johnny Cake for each person in your group. This is a must. Trust us. ☺

Chicken Shack

Flavors of the Caribbean

Very casual /  take out recommended

14 minutes from your pool deck

For local / down-island fare we hit up Flavors of the Caribbean. Roti, stew goat, along with a variety of specials make for a unique experience. We like the Roti - think of this as a curry burrito with your choice of filling.  If you go with chicken, there is a boneless and bone-in option (team boneless).  If you like spicy food, ask for your Roti with pepper sauce. Again, it’s mostly a take-out option for us. They sell out quickly so call at 11AM for lunch.

Flavors

Eden

Very casual /  take out only

4 minutes from your pool deck

Eden, which is 100% vegan, is terrific for two reasons - first, it's just 5 minutes from The Landings and second, the food is both healthy and delicious. You won't find elaborate offerings here but their carry-out sandwiches, salads, and wraps, are great when you want a quick easy lunch.
