Keep in mind that St.Croix is a tiny rock in the middle of the Caribbean. Finding some items may prove tricky. (I am talking to you, ripe avocados) Grocery stores have absolutely everything you need but maybe not everything you want. (The view from the pool makes up for this, we promise!)
While there are other grocery stores on the island we recommend shopping at one on our list. Some of the others can be rather hit-or-miss.
In addition to the markets listed below there's also the La Reine Farmers’ Market, west of La Reine Shopping Center (and the Chicken Shack) that is open Saturday mornings.
Market STX is generally our first stop on the way from the airport. It has everything you need to stock-up for your stay including beer, wine, and liquor. Fun Fact: All grocery stores on St. Croix can sell beer, wine, and liquor! The same is true of gas stations. (Of which there are many)
A great, if more limited option, just 7 minutes away from home. We are embarrassed by how much money we spend here. It’s just so convenient. Say hi to Yousef and tell him Carl is still waiting for the next shipment of Mallomars.
Located just east of Christiansted, Seaside is a great stop for more specialty items - fine wines, cheese, deli meats, etc. They also make a mean sandwich and coffee. Seaside is our go-to for getting fresh Mahi to grill poolside on the patio.
Not to be confused with Quality Grocery (our go-to spot for take out sandwiches and cubanos), Quality Food is an excellent option for proteins and fresh produce. It’s a bit tricky to get to, however if you are on island for a while and enjoy cooking, Quality Foods is a terrific spot for provisions. This is where mom shops.
Why do we have a gas station on the list? Because grocery stores are not open super late in St. Croix and G Max is. Think 7-11 and you’ll get it. Fun Fact: While we can’t prove it, we *think* there are more gas stations per capita on St. Croix than anywhere else in the known universe. So much so that there’s a controversial moratorium on building more. Pay attention to the names, “One Love” is our favorite. (Name, not gas station, we don’t play favorites here)
